The Scottish Young Enterprise Finals took place on the 6th June at Hampden Park Glasgow. The winner who will go on to represent Young Enterprise Scotland at the UK finals in July. Our 17 finalists had beaten off competition from 2,000 other students from the Highlands to the Borders and made it through their regional finals in order to compete for the national crown.
The Company of the Year – Estrela – had travelled all the way from Kirkwall in Orkney.
Inspired by Orcadian heritage and culture, the group of sixth year pupils manufactured a battery-operated, remote-controlled LED light designed for the home. Best of luck to the team at the finals.
Negotium from Boroughmuir High School represented the Lothian Area Team at the 2018 Scottish Final. Unfortuately they did not win, however super news ….. Rhianna Harrison won the Young Enterprise Managing Director of the year at the event. Congratulations and well done.
Rhianna led her team Negotium from Boroughmuir High School to victory as winners of the Lothian Company of the Year 2018. In all 210 companies from all over Scotland took part in the competition so Rhianna can be very proud of her achievement. I’m sure all our supporters and schools in Lothian will join us in offering Rhianna congratulations.
We like to celebrate in style, so our awards dinner was Beach Party themed with music to match. Our young people and guests enjoyed a drinks reception with a VW campervan themed photobooth and sparkling drinks.
With Rachel McTavish making her return to the stage alongside our Schools Programme Manager Mark Armstrong to welcome our finalists to the final leg of their journey.
This year we had a ten-minute set from Skapade Studios to set us up, with them commenting that it was the most bizarre set they’d ever played – with them being dressed in full suits.
In addition to this we were joined by mother/daughter entrepreneur duo Loral and Eishel Quinn, founders of Sustainably – an app dedicated to rounding up your ‘loose change’ from transactions and donating to charities of your choice.
Our keynote speaker Sanjeev Kohli shared his own experiences with enterprise and a non traditional career path – which we’re all for.
