Each Board Member below is linked to a school and is the first point of contact for any problems, issues or questions the young company/school might have in relation to the Company Programme. Carol Wright
Carol is a partner in Springfords LLP, accountants and business advisors. She has enjoyed over 25 years experience looking after owner managed businesses and, with the help of her professional team, gets great satisfaction in helping her clients to grow from start up into highly successful profitable businesses. She has also been simultaneously involved in the world of academia over the years in her roles as a part time tutor at Edinburgh University, an exam marker for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, a member of the Parent Council at Linlithgow Academy and more recently as a Governor at Jewel and Esk College. When not working, she enjoys walking in the hills (in fair weather!), trying out new recipes and dabbling in water colour painting.
Ken Houston
Ken Houston was a Link Teacher for many years. On retiring in 2001 he undertook to look after liaison between Board, Link Teachers and Business Members. This is mostly done by e-mail and his address is ken.houston@blueyonder.co.uk He is also responsible for taking new volunteers through the Disclosure process.
Judy Good
Judy is a new member of the Lothian Area Board this year. Until recently she was a Senior Investment Manager with Edinburgh based law firm Turcan Connell. There she was responsible for managing investment portfolios for private clients, SIPPs, Trusts and Charities. Judy now spends most of her time looking after her two young children. In addition she tutors on Financial Services at the University of Edinburgh and is also a Young Enterprise Business Advisor for St George’s School.
Sandra Stenhouse
Sandra has been involved with Young Enterprise for 9 years, initially as a link teacher for one of the companies at St George’s and in 2002 she took over the Co-ordination of Enterprise in the school which included supervising usually about 6 Young Enterprise companies every year. She joined the Board in 2003 and became a member of the Training Sub Committee. Sandra studied for a Business degree at Napier University as a mature student from 1993 to 1997 and did a Post Graduate teaching qualification in Business and Economics from 1997-1998. She joined St George’s part time in 1998 for 2 years and then became full time in 2000 and became Head of Business and Enterprise in 2002. She has 3 daughters and one grandson and spends all her free time looking after him at the moment!
Caroline Logan
Caroline has been involved with Young Enterprise for approximately 12 years, initially as an advisor and then joined the Board around nine years ago. After a lengthy career in finance she joined Young Enterprise in their quest to help disadvantaged young people. She presently works with the pupils in Edinburgh’s Secure Units teaching them about various aspects of business, a role with gives her an immense amount of satisfaction. Whenever possible she enjoys travelling, particularly to warmer climates.
Laura Cheyne
Laura Cheyne is the Marketing Manager for Historic Scotland. Leading a small team, Laura manages marketing campaigns for some of the biggest tourist attractions in Scotland including Edinburgh, Stirling and Urquhart Castles. Be it filming historical kings and queens for TV adverts, arranging radio promotions or photographing visitors enjoying days out at Historic Scotland’s iconic sites there’s never a dull moment in the Marketing Department. Laura was first introduced to Young Enterprise when she was part of the company programme herself as a 6th year pupil at Hazlehead Academy in Aberdeen. Having been part of the Board since 2008, every year Laura loves to see the innovative ideas that the new companies develop as they move through the company programme.
Marilyn Nelson – Secretary
Marilyn has been associated with YES Lothian Area Board since 1999, when she retired as Headmaster’s Secretary at Merchiston Castle School. Prior to that she was Registrar at Wellington College in Berkshire. Her interests include theatre and concert-going and animal welfare.
Jackie Cameron
An independent coach and trainer Jackie joined the Board in 2010. With experience of working with young people on a variety of projects Jackie knows the huge benefit that comes from learning by doing. The YES Company programme gives students the chance to do just that whilst at the same time gaining marketable personal skills for future employers. She leads on the training workshops provided during the programme and has special expertise in public speaking training which is very useful when it comes to the Awards Event!
Fraser Bedwell
Fraser joined the Lothian Area Board in 2009, taking over as Chair in August 2011. He is currently Head of Marketing with leading veterans charity Poppyscotland where, in addition to raising the profile of the iconic Scottish Poppy Appeal, he works to generate new commercial opportunities and to promote the charity’s year round work. Prior to this he held various positions in sports marketing with Scottish Rugby, the NFL and activitymix. While attending McLaren High School in Callander in the early 1990’s, his Young Enterprise Company reached the Scottish finals for selling a range of customised 3D “Magic Eye” pictures.
Robert Flood
I am Principal Teacher (Technology & ICT) at Knox Academy. Previously, I taught at schools in the Shetland Islands and Plockton in Wester Ross. I have been involved as a Link Teacher in the Lothians for 8 years. I enjoy following Scotland at football and England at cricket, and also live theatre and music.
Peter Nixon
Peter re-joined the Lothian Area Board 2 years ago along with being a Business Adviser. Peter has been involved in Lothian Young Enterprise Scotland since 1991 as a BT volunteer firstly as a Business Adviser, then Board Member and then Chairperson. Peter currently works as a BT Technical Sales Manager dealing with customers in Scotland and northern England for BT voice networks and has worked in BT for 39 years.
Chris Brandie
Chris Brandie has been involved in Young Enterprise for a number of years now, both as a Link Teacher and as a member of the Lothian Board, of which he is currently Vice Chair. Chris is Acting Depute Head at Boroughmuir High School in Edinburgh and comes from a background of teaching Modern Languages and Guidance.

Laura Barnet
Currently working as Marketing Advisor with Escape Recruitment Services, Laura has spent her career in the recruitment industry providing consultancy, assessment and campaign management support to a wide range of organisations across Scotland. Laura recognises the importance of programmes such as YES in providing students with a unique opportunity to develop skills and experience that can not only help them identify potential career paths but can also help them understand their own strengths and build evidence of their abilities to demonstrate to potential employers as they enter the job market. Laura joined the board in 2012 after supporting the YES Lothian training programme in 2011 and having been part of the programme herself at school!
